The practice formed a walking group in January 2006 to provide organized walks for patients, staff and friends of the practice team.
The aim is to encourage all of us to exercise a little more and to enjoy some of the wonderful walks that are available locally with like-minded people.
The annual subscription cost of joining the Walking Group is £18.00 per person. All the subscription money will go to a charity, chosen by walk members at their annual meeting held after the January walk. The current choice of charity is The Dash Charity (charity number: 1127126); Dash is an acronym for domestic abuse stops here. Details about the work of the charity may be obtained by reference to their website http://www.thedashcharity.org.uk.
Walks take place on the first Sunday of every calendar month. Details of the each walk are sent by email to group members at least a week before the walk. An experienced member of the group leads each walk. The walks usually start at 10 a.m. and are open to all group members. The walks are circular and average about 5 miles in length. Transport is usually required and ‘car-sharing’ is encouraged - especially to help those without their own transport. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome! The instructions are simple and clear, with a sketch-map, allowing walkers to be able to complete the walk without a guide if they are unable to attend the led walk.
All walkers walk at their own risk
Members are free to bring occasional guests whom they consider are able to complete the walk safely. The cost of the walk to guests will be £1.00 per walk, to be paid on the day of the walk. If a guest comes on more than two walks a year, they will be asked to become members of the group and to pay a subscription.
New walkers are welcome to attend one or two led walks before deciding to join the group. The cost will be £1.00/per walk to be paid on the day of the walk. If new walkers come on more than two walks a year, they will be asked to become members of the group and to pay a subscription.
The walks for the current year are listed below. The instructions for the next walk are normally available for download about two weeks before it is due to take place. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
